In the early hours of Friday 24 May, the Panama flagged containership MSC Matilde was found listing heavily in dock at the Port of Liverpool.

“As a precaution, to ensure the safety of the captain and crew, they were disembarked from the vessel. There were no reports of injuries, loss of cargo or damage to ship and operations are back to normal,” said a press release from Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC).

The vessel had reportedly started tilting outside the Gladstone dock on the Mersey River, at the Liverpool2 container terminal. The coastguard sent lifeboats, tugs and a pollution response vessel to the scene after being contacted by the Seaforth dock operators, Peel Ports.

A spokesperson from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency reported that the crew were returned to the ship around 08:30am once the vessel was righted and Port State Control continued their assessments.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
