The Royal Caribbean cruise ship Oasis of the Seas, has been put out of service as a construction crane fell onto the vessel during maintenance work in dry dock in the Great Bahama shipyard.
It has been reported that 8 dock workers have been injured, though none severely. The incident, which occurred on Monday 1 April, is said to have caused extensive structural damage to the dock and the ship. Royal Caribbean has cancelled the ships’ next three sail dates in April to properly assess the damage and carry out a thorough investigation in to the causes of the crash.
The Oasis of the Seas is one of the world’s largest cruise ships with a capacity of 6,780 passengers and 2,200 crew members. Royal Caribbean have also offered full refunds to all guests of the cancelled sail dates and expect the ship to be back to full working capacity in May.
