The 37,332 dwt Bluebill was en route from South Korea when it collided with the bridge situated on the river Chagres, in the Gamboa community on Tuesday morning. The bulker was carrying grain and sustained limited damages, however the collision has not impacted traffic in the Panama Canal. was.

In a statement the Panama Canal Authority said it would investigate the causes behind the accident, as well as the damage sustained by the bridge. According to IHS Markit AISLive ship tracking portal, the Bluebill is currently anchored off Gamboa in the Panama Canal.

It was noted by the local press, TVN, that access to and from the Gamboa community was not affected as the damaged bridge was a historical one, constructed in 1908, and not the new one, constructed in 2018.
